Las Vegas Centennial SUBARU sponsored a “Ride to Remember” cycling event Oct. 14, 2023, in conjunction with “3 Feet for Pete,” a Southern Nevada memorial honoring Pete Makowski, a cyclist who was killed in 2013 when he was struck by a gravel truck. Early Saturday morning several hundred cyclists met at Camping World on Las Vegas Boulevard South and road off in waves of 50 toward Jean, NV, where they turned around and headed back to Camping World. The round-trip ride was approximately 28 miles. All proceeds, including a $25 entry fee per rider, went toward funding the annual event and raising awareness of Nevada’s 3-feet law that states that motorists passing a bicyclist must move into an adjacent lane to the left, if possible. If unable to do so, a motorist must pass within a minimum of 3 feet of space between their vehicle and the bicyclist. Road closures were enforced during the ride with support from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Land Management. The ride was not a race, competition or training ride. The goal was to promote cycling safety and bring together the cycling community as a whole. “Centennial SUBARU was proud to sponsor Ride to Remember to increase road safety in Southern Nevada,” General Manager Ryon Walters said. “3 Feet for Pete is a wonderful memorial to not only honor Pete Makowski, but to shine a spotlight on sharing the road with bicyclists and to promote both safe driving and cycling habits. Centennial SUBARU was a proud sponsor and exhibitor at the Las Vegas Animal Foundation’s annual “Clear The Shelters” day August 26, 2023, in which all adoption fees were waved to encourage Southern Nevadans to adopt a pet of their choice. More than 40 cats, 200 dogs, 70 small mammals, eight exotics (turtles, snakes, fish, etc.), one goat and a pig were available for adoption. “Our goal was to have 100 animals adopted today,” Allison Ford, Marketing Manager of the Animal Foundation, said. “Every year Clear The Shelters is held all month long, with today being the last day and culmination of the annual event.” Ford pointed out that all animals up for adoption were microchipped and had their shots. The pets were spay or neutered, or would be at a later date by appointment after adoption. All procedures were done free of charge. “We really are trying to push pet adoption,” Ford said. “You don’t pay for vaccinations, which could cost normally $100 or more.” “Clear The Shelters fits perfectly with the Love Promise Subaru Loves Pets® campaign,” General Manager Ryon Walters said. “SUBARU is committed to keeping all animals safe and healthy, whether they live in our homes or in the wild. Six employee volunteer drivers from Centennial Subaru recently packed up their vehicles and delivered 30 nutritious bagged meals to needy members of our Southern Nevada community. The food was professionally prepared by the Honey Salt Restaurant, 1031 S. Rampart Blvd., Las Vegas, NV. This volunteer-based program, Delivering with Dignity Las Vegas, was launched in March 2020 as an emergency response to the healthcare and economic crisis created by the novel coronavirus and has grown substantially in its effort to help needy and isolated individuals in Southern Nevada. Delivering with Dignity has developed partnerships with locally owned restaurants, leading nonprofits and private corporations to deliver meals directly to the doorsteps of residents, keeping dozens of restaurant staffs employed and has expanded to support community facilities, such as domestic abuse and homeless shelters. Delivering with Dignity is supported by the Moonridge Foundation, established by the Moonridge Group philanthropy firm that advises funders, individual philanthropists and family foundations. Centennial Subaru hosted a bicycle “Think. Ride. Remember” cycling event that drew more than 170 riders July 1, 2023, for “3 Feet for Pete,” a Southern Nevada memorial event in honor of Pete Makowski, who passed in 2013 when he was struck by a gravel truck while on a training ride. Cyclists left Centennial Subaru’s parking lot and headed north on the 215 Beltway bike path towards West Charleston Boulevard. After ascending a few hills, riders turned around at the Ghost Bikes Memorial at Charleston Boulevard and headed back to the retailer. A local DJ played music and a Pangaea New World Fusion Food Truck provided wholesome food for the returning cyclists. Makowski’s teammates from the Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air cycling team created “3 Feet for Pete” in remembrance of their friend and to support cycling safety. “Centennial Subaru supports any and all efforts to increase road safety in Southern Nevada,” General Manager Ryon Walters said. “Subaru is known for the design and safety features built into its vehicles, so this sponsorship is in alignment with the goals of anyone who advocates for road safety.” “Centennial Subaru has numerous employees who are already engaged in competitive and recreational cycling, so the opportunity to partner with Ride to Remember on quarterly events was ideal,” Walters added. “Given the location of our retail store and customer demographics, we hope the community will join us for future events like this ride that are not only educational, but also fun while promoting a healthy lifestyle.” According to Nevada’s Division of Motor Vehicles, motorists passing a bicycle must move into an adjacent lane to the left, if possible. This is according to Nevada’s 3-Feet/Move Over Passing Law (NRS 484B.270). If unable to do so, the motorists must pass within a minimum of 3 feet of space between the vehicle and the bicycle. Motorists may be charged with reckless driving if they are at fault in any collision with a bicyclist or a pedestrian. Penalties include a driver’s license suspension. The goal is to achieve zero collisions, ending cyclist traffic fatalities.

The Centennial Subaru Team recently donned their aprons and dropped by the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas to cook smash burgers and fries for some 15 families and children who are receiving inpatient or outpatient medical treatment at local hospitals. Nine team volunteers participated. “These are multiple families in need, and it brought us great joy to be able to help Ronald McDonald House by bringing food and preparing it for their clients,” Dominick Gaglianao, Centennial Subaru Business Manager and Love Promise Coordinator, said. “I was raised around the kitchen table. My family loves to cook. Sometimes the happiest times are when you are served meals. This was a good time with good people for the right reasons.” “We are so grateful for the support of Centennial Subaru,” Julia Copie, Marketing Coordinator at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Las Vegas, said. “The families were very happy and really enjoyed the meals.” The mission of the RMHC of Greater Las Vegas is to provide a supportive “home away from home” for families and children receiving hospital treatment. Without the Ronald McDonald House, families might have to sleep in a hospital chair or even in their cars, as most families cannot afford a hotel room for weeks or sometimes months - especially under the financial stress of mounting medical bills. Through RMHC, these programs support families, so they can fully focused on the recovery of their children.

Centennial SUBARU recently delivered 270 Chick-fil-A box lunches and vouchers for free car washes to 270 hard working and dedicated nurses at Centennial Hills Hospital in recognition of May National Nurses Month. The American Nurses Association designated May as National Nurses Month in honor of nurses' unwavering commitment to patients, communities and our healthcare systems. “Nursing is such a challenging profession that many times require nurses to put in long and stressful hours caring for their patients,” Centennial SUBARU General Manager Ryon Walters said. “This was vividly brought home when we all saw the tired faces of nurses dealing with the stress and pressure of caring for COVID patients. Many times because their patients were in isolation, it was only a nurse holding their hand trying to encourage them to hold on and fight to live. And sadly, many times before one of these patients died, the last face they saw was a nurse holding their hand and hovering over their bed.” “We are so grateful and honored to be able to recognize our nurses at Centennial Hills Hospital this May,” Walters added. “We hope they enjoy the lunches, and we look forward to meeting each and everyone of them when they drop by to have their vehicles washed.”
