Charging Methods & Charge Times

One of the benefits of driving an EV is that you’ll be able to choose from more than one way to keep it charged. The types of charging methods you prefer will more than likely vary depending on what’s available in Las Vegas and what your driving habits are.

Take a look at the different types of charging methods and how long you can expect to wait for each method:

Level 1 Charging

This type of charging method is one of the slowest methods, but it’s also one of the most practical charging methods. Level 1 charging usually involves plugging your EV into a 110- or 120-volt outlet. This charging method provides around 4 miles of charge per hour, so this is something that would probably work as a backup charging method or if you wanted to leave your EV to charge overnight.

Level 2 In-Home Charging

Level 2 charging stations must be installed by a certified electrician since they run at 240 volts, which is twice as much voltage as a Level 1 charger. Level 2 charging stations charge at an estimated rate of 24 miles of range per hour of charge. This method is great for letting your EV charge between running errands around Summerlin.

Level 2 Public Charging Station

These types of charging stations are more common in places like grocery stores, hotels, parking lots, libraries, and other public areas. They provide similar charging speeds as a Level 2 home charging station, but you have the convenience of them being in public places. This method could be ideal if you’re driving more than usual.

Level 3 Fast Charging Station

These charging methods are the fastest and usually offer anywhere between 60-100 miles of range per 20 minutes of charging. However, they’re only currently available at public charging stations, and these kinds of charging stations are usually only found on major highways and freeways. But, as EVs become more popular, more charging stations of all levels will naturally become available.
