Crosstrek, Forester & Outback Rank 1-2-3 In KBB’s 2023 Best Resale Value

And for 2023, KBB has ranked the Subaru Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback as the three best SUVs that will have the highest resale value. These SUVs, after five years, are expected to retain most of the MSRP that customers pay for them. 

2023 Subaru Crosstrek

For the 2023 Crosstrek, Kelley Blue Book has estimated it will retain as much as 61% of its value after five years of ownership. The Crosstrek has a base MSRP of $23,645 and features either a 2.0-liter Subaru Boxer engine that produces 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.5-liter Boxer with 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel drive is standard. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Crosstrek their coveted Top Safety Pick award, and has received recognition by the IIHS for 6 straight years.

2023 Subaru Forester

KBB believes the 2023 Forester will retain 60.6% of its original value. With a starting price of $26,495, the Forester has a 2.5-liter Boxer motor that puts out 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. Like its sibling, the Crosstrek, it, too, is an IIHS Top Safety Pick winner for 17 consecutive years. 

2023 Subaru Outback

According to KBB.com the 2023 Outback will keep 57.8% of its original value. The Outback has a starting MSRP of $28,395 and buyers have a choice of either a 2.5-liter Boxer 4-cylinder that has 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer 4 that produces 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Like its other Subaru SUV siblings, the IIHS has also given the Outback its Top Safety Pick+ award… for 15 years in a row.
