When it comes to shopping for a new vehicle, the two figures you’re likely looking at when it comes to making the actual purchase are likely the window price and the monthly payment. Obviously you want an overall price that’s within your long-term budget as well as a vehicle with a monthly payment that fits your immediate budget, but what about the true cost of ownership? The cost of owning a vehicle is much more than just these two numbers. Depreciation, service fees, maintenance costs and so on all add up to the true cost of ownership. So, does the value of a Subaru vehicle hold up? According to the Black Book Best Residual Value Awards, many Subaru models do.

Black Book Best Residual Value Awards

Four Subaru models were recognized with Best Residual Value Awards by the Canadian organization Black Book. These four vehicles were recognized in specific categories starting with the 2023 Subaru Impreza being recognized in the Car: Main category. The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek was then recognized in the SUV: Main Compact/Subcompact category, followed by the 2023 Subaru BRZ in the Sports Car Main category and the 2023 Subaru Solterra in the EV SUV Below $60,000 category. The vehicles took first, second, third and third place, respectively, in their categories. All four of these awards are exciting and show that the true cost of ownership of these Subaru vehicles is at a respectable level.

What does this mean for the true cost of ownership?

Pinning down actual figures for how much it costs to own any vehicle is next to impossible as situations vary from customer to customer, but awards like these look at aggregated information to extrapolate an estimate of how much it costs to own a vehicle. It means that owning Subaru vehicles, especially these three, costs less over time than it does to own many other vehicles. Essentially, it means that not only do these vehicles have affordable up-front price tags, but its service costs and depreciation values are low as well.
