Throughout the decades, plenty of brands have used stars in their logos, but what makes ours unique?
Here in America, when we think of stars we typically picture a five-pointed star, so there might be some of you out there who didn’t even realize that the Subaru logo is comprised of six different four-pointed stars inside that blue oval. What do the stars mean?
The simple answer is that it looks appealing! As a species, we love the stars. It's one of the first shapes we learn, we love to stare up at them when reflecting, and we even associate noble ambitions with "reaching for the stars." The Subaru stars don't just function as a symbol of greatness, though. There's an even deeper meaning. Let us first take a walk through history, back to the year 1953, the year Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. was formed out of six different Japanese companies. The conglomeration adopted the name we’ve come to know and love today: Subaru. In Japanese, this word translates as “unite,” which is a great representation of the different companies coming together as one. However, Subaru is also the Japanese name for what we know as the Pleiades cluster of stars. Following the tracks yet? While the Pleiades, in Greek mythology, was a group of seven sisters, only six of the sister stars that make up the constellation are easily visible from Earth. So, the six stars represent the six companies that merged to form Subaru. Pretty cool, right? Subaru has come to be much more than just an automotive brand to drivers. Subaru represents family, community, a love for adventure, and high-quality vehicles at an affordable price. For some, Subaru is a weekend camping trip with family, adventures on the road less taken, long road trips to Disney World, ski trips with friends, and carpools to football practice.
