The Subaru Forester may be larger and more powerful than it was initially, but the venerable SUV remains an excellent value that brings great safety features and tech. The 2025 Forester recently debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and we’re here to give you the top five things you need to know. 

Updated Exterior Styling

Subaru gave the 2025 Forester an updated front fascia with a new grille and slim LED headlights. The automaker said the changes bring a more modern look to the SUV while retaining its rugged attitude. Subaru’s new star emblem is also on board, highlighting the updated front-end look. Aerodynamics got a boost with the new bodywork. Each trim gets exclusive underbody protection with different colors by model, and these changes have made the SUV more stable on the road.

Fresh Interior

The Forester’s front seats are reshaped for better support and comfort with a focus on minimizing fatigue. Subaru added more sound deadening, bringing noise levels down by 39 percent in the process, and it redesigned the climate controls to focus on the occupied seats instead of the entire cabin. The rear liftgate is available with a kick sensor for the first time, and all trim levels get welcome lighting, power windows, and power door locks. 

One Lively Powertrain Choice

Subaru equips a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, making 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. A continuously variable transmission and symmetrical all-wheel drive come standard. The Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring trims add manual shifting capability with paddle shifters that simulate an eight-speed automatic transmission. Torque vectoring shifts torque between the wheels that need it most.

Plenty of Standard Safety Tech

The 2025 Forester comes with a generous list of safety tech, including EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. The features group includes forward collision warnings, lane departure alerts, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and more. Available tech has reverse automatic braking, blind spot monitoring with lane change assist, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The adaptive cruise control system can now stop the vehicle if the driver becomes unresponsive while using the feature.

Light Off-Road Capability

The new Forester will bring the rugged attitude of its predecessor. It sports 8.7 inches of ground clearance and full-time all-wheel drive, making it an excellent choice for people living in inclement climates.
