Subaru Features In New Film With Travis Pastrana
While you’ll see cars in most modern movies, few vehicles actually get the chance to be a highlight feature in a film. The cars that do get features are often futuristic models that don’t actually exist or unrealistically modded versions of production models. That isn’t the case for one recently released film, however, as Subaru has taken center stage in a new flick from racing driver and stunt, Travis Pastrana, called Gymkhana 2022. Gymkhana isn’t a “film” per se but is instead a series short videos from Pastrana that feature auto stunts on a whole new level.
Subaru in Gymkhana 2022
This isn’t the first time Pastrana has put a Subaru to the stunt-performing test. Gymkhana 2020 featured the 2020 Subaru WRX STI, which included a custom-made boxer engine putting out 862 horsepower. For this latest edition of Gymkhana, however, Pastrana went old school, getting behind the wheel of a 1983 Subaru GL wagon. As with the model above, this vehicle also receives some performance enhancements, coming equipped with an 865-horsepower engine and an active aero wing. In the film, Pastrana pulls out all the stops, using the GL to perform stunts and “spirited” driving throughout areas of Florida. The video features monster trucks, a fighter plane and a whole lot of chaos. You can check it all out below.
The production version of the GL, known in its home country and other markets as the Subaru Leone, came in a wide variety of body styles from 2-door coupe to pickup. The wagon model was first sold in the United States in the 1977 model year. The nameplate continued production for 23 years.
