It’s no surprise that the 2023 Subaru Ascent easily wins out over comparable vehicles in its class. Each Ascent comes equipped with legendary Subaru reliability, high-tech features, and advanced safety. But how does it hold up to luxury SUVs? To find out, we’ve compared three of the top-rated luxury mid-size SUVs to the Subaru Ascent to see who wins.
Subaru Ascent vs. Lexus RX
Let’s start with one of the most well-known luxury brands: Lexus. The Lexus RX is comparable in size, with many of the same features available. However, the entry price for the Lexus is about the same as the top-of-the-line Ascent. That means that with the Ascent, you’re more likely to get more standard features than you are with the base model RX. Both have a 2.4L Turbo engine, but the Lexus has 15 more horsepower. However, the Ascent comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which is only an option for the RX. There are similar advanced safety features for both. So if you’re looking for more bang for your buck, the Ascent is worth checking out over the RX.
Subaru Ascent vs. Cadillac XT5
Another popular luxury brand, Cadillac has a comparable vehicle in the XT5. But despite similar dimensions, the Ascent and XT5 couldn’t be more different. While the Ascent can seat 7 or 8, the XT5’s two rows can only fit five. Still, the Ascent has more max cargo volume at 75.6 cubic feet versus 63 cubic feet in the XT5. Like the Lexus option, the intro price for the XT5 is close to the Ascent Touring, which offers more standard safety and technology than the XT5. While the Cadillac offers a much larger 3.6L V6 engine, you have to pay the price to get it ($58,940 MSRP). Additionally, the Ascent Touring will get you the most standard driver assist features like a rear-vision camera, only available at the higher XT5 trims.
Subaru Ascent vs. Mercedes-Benz GLC
The GLC is another case of paying a premium for AWD. In this case, adding on their 4MATIC AWD system will bring you up to a higher cost than the Ascent Touring. It, too, has a turbo engine, but comes up with 5 horsepower lower than the Ascent. It also has fewer seats than the Ascent with only 56.5 cubic feet of max cargo space. There’s even less legroom, making the Ascent the roomier option. If you want connectivity, both offer multimedia systems with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility.
