The New 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Revealed at Chicago Auto Show
The reveal occurred within Subaru’s National Parks-themed display with stunning views of our National Parks in the background. Nearby was an enclosure where attendees could interact with rescue puppies that were available for adoption. This background highlighted the National Parks Foundation and the ASPCA; two of the four major charities Subaru gives to as part of the Subaru Love Promise program. The program also donates to Meals on Wheels and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Still, the 2024 Crosstrek was the star. This is the 3rd generation Crosstrek. As with previous models, it is based on the Impreza, given the Outback treatment with higher ground clearance and other off-pavement-focused features. The Crosstrek continues to be the smallest of Subaru’s trio of off-pavement-focused models, which include the Forester and Outback. Highly anticipated in our Centennial Subaru showroom in the latter months of 2023, the 2024 Crosstrek is graced with the current Subaru design language, including a front end combining a large hexagon grille with low-profile LED headlights, supplemented by bold round fog lights. Overall the vehicle presents a broad-shouldered stance, with bold fender cladding. Premium, Sport, and Limited trims top things off with robust roof rails. Beneath the styling is a 10% stiffer body structure for improved ride and handling.
2.0L and 2.5L Engines Retained
Both engines will be carried over from the current Crosstrek which means the base and Premium models carry on with the 152 hp 2.0-liter boxer 4-cyl., while the Sport and Limited trims continue with the 182 horsepower 2.5-liter boxer 4-cyl., though peak torque has been bumped up from 176 to 178 lb-ft. With the larger engine comes an upgrade from 17” to 18” wheels. Both engines use the CVT automatic transmission in all models as the manual transmission model has been discontinued. Subaru’s trademark Hill Start Assist is standard, as is driver-selectable X-MODE with Hill Descent Control, which maximizes wheel control on slippery surfaces and steep inclines. Sport and Limited trims upgrade to dual-function X-MODE for increased capability in a wider range of conditions. The Crosstrek continues to have 8.7 inches of ground clearance which matches Forster and Outback.
Crosstrek gets the Big Screen Treatment
The 3rd-Gen Crosstrek has a redesigned dash in part to accommodate the 11.6-inch SUBARU STARLINK® multimedia system for the Premium, Sport, and Limited Trims. The base model retains the dual 7-inch infotainment and climate screens. Models with the larger screen also get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the base model has wired capability for the same. The front seats were redesigned to provide increased support which improves overall comfort and minimizes fatigue. Subaru also focused on reducing sounds within particular frequency ranges for a quieter and more comfortable cabin.
20/20 EyeSight
All 2024 Crosstrek models will be equipped with the award-winning EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, now enhanced to operate more smoothly, quickly, and under a greater range of conditions. System enhancements include a wider field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster. This new EyeSight can more quickly identify bicycles and pedestrians at intersections, alert the driver, and when necessary apply braking to avoid collisions. Additional active safety features include Reverse Automatic Braking and Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Models equipped with the latter also include Automatic Emergency Steering which works with EyeSight and Blind-Spot Detection to provide steering control when needed to help avoid a collision within a lane at speeds less than 50 mph.
Little Change in Size and Pricing
Crosstrek’s exterior dimensions are nearly unchanged, and so is its pricing. Aside from the discontinuation of the manual transmission model, the starting MSRP is only slightly higher than the current model despite its enhancements. Here are the announced MSRPs for each model:
- Base: $26,290
- Premium: $27,440
- Sport: $30,290
- Limited: $32,190
